SANTA CLARA, CA - Matt Balderston, a May graduate of Clemson University and four-year performer on the Clemson Swimming and Diving team, qualified for Olympic Trials in the 50 meter freestyle with a time of 23.48 seconds. Balderston reached the milestone in the first 50 meters of the 200 freestyle. The time is just under the cut of 23.49 required for Olympic Trials which will be held June 29- July 6, 2008 in Omaha, NE.
Balderston has had a busy concluding semester at Clemson. In addition to his Olympic Trial cut and swimming duties, Balderston has also been awarded and NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship after graduating with a 4.00 in Biochemistry. He was also inducted into Phi Beta Kappa and was recently named a Strength and Conditioning All-American.
Balderston will join current Tigers Rachel Regone, Tom Recko, and Michelle Parkhurst in Omaha in pursuit of a spot on the Olympic squad. Regone is also qualified in the 50 free, while Parkhurst has already qualified in the 100 back and Recko recently made the cut in the 200 backstroke.
